About
This website shows a selection of my graphic design and art direction work from the last decade.
I have spent the last twelve years working in magazines, design firms, museums and higher education. I also regularly freelance for an array of clients, primarily designing reports and books. Currently, I am the Art Director and Design Lead at Harvard Public Health magazine and the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, where I lead the visual design for the online publication and support the communication design needs for the School.
I choose to be a designer and art director because I am drawn to the way that color, image, pattern and other visual media communicate meaning before one reads a single word. My infinite curiosity combined with my pragmatic tendencies guide my process, which allows for research, experimentation and play. I do my best work when I can collaborate with other creatives and critical thinkers.
Speaking of infinite curiosity, I recently began pursuing a certificate in Museum Studies. Museums have always struck me as places of wonder and knowledge. I like the escapism, the curation, the beauty, (and the oddity) of objects and collections. Through my coursework, I have discussed museum’s origins, exhibition design, challenges facing the museum industry today, and informal learning techniques. I hope to continue my studies by pursuing a Master’s degree. I easily see the natural evolution from graphic design on the page and screen to exhibitions and larger museum spaces. Each is a platform for visual communication and audience captivation.
When not at a computer screen or in a classroom, I enjoy listening to audiobooks, training for 10ks and half marathons, planning a trip or two, and relearning Spanish after a 20-year hiatus. I am also passionate about transportation advocacy, sustainability, and women’s rights.
